A long weekend in the wilderness with a bunch of friends, sometime around 1999-2000. A very interesting account of a visit to a remarkable series of hills near Madras ” (then Madras Presidency) was published in the Madras journal in 1836 by Colonel Montieth of the Madras Engineers and republished more than a hundred years later in the Hindu in 1940 in an article titled “Cumbuccum Droog” – A hill resort near Madras.”
This has been my all time favourite camping area – natural, green and surrounded by hills. A place that offered the freedom of living in the outdoors – waking to the sun, tracing the course of the crystal clear river bordered by caves, canyons and gorges and resting under the stars. Paradise!
